Wondering why the windows are blacked out at Gallery 3West??? It's because we're getting ready for An Evening with Dwight Kirkland. Our volunteers are busy getting the gallery ready for the show. We're hanging Dwight's art, moving furniture around, and cleaning in preparation for a great opening! Hope to see you there!
We're getting some private messages asking what a "salon" is. This is a good question, and I'm sorry we didn't think to clarify it before!
A salon is a gathering of people who get together to discuss ideas in order to increase the knowledge of the participants. In a nutshell, it's a group of people learning through discussion and sharing.
Salons originated in 16th century Italy, and have continued in urban areas to the present. They were at their most popular in Paris during the Enlightenment period.
Salons were usually held in the homes of wealthy patrons and discussions were usually led by a prominent person whose opinions were sought after.
If you've ever seen the film, "Midnight in Paris," you've seen a salon! In that film, the protagonist is transported to 1920s Paris, and finds himself in a salon at the home of Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas, where is meets Ernest Hemingway, Cole Porter, Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Josephine Baker, and other artists, writers, and musicians of the time, discussing what they do and sharing ideas. Check it out if you haven't seen it! It's a good film!
And stop by and visit Gallery 3West on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-8 pm. The more people who come, the more fun it is!
Don't forget that Gallery 3West is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-8 pm. We would like to see this become a time when artists and art-lovers can network, work on projects, and discuss the arts in a salon-like atmosphere.
Staci is there on Tuesdays. She loves the textile arts! If you spin, weave, felt, full, dye, knit, crochet, sew, quilt, embroider, upcycle textiles - or anything else textile-related, bring a project to work on and hang out on Tuesdays!
Shane and Nathaniel are there on Thursdays. Shane loves film and literature, and Nathaniel is a photographer. They both love street and fine art as well. Come on in and share your work or discuss techniques on Thursdays.
Remember - you don't have to *be* an artist to join us! If you're interested and would like to learn more, you are welcome! Come in Tuesday and Thursday evenings and see what we're about!
This Friday evening, November 1, we will celebrate the work of local artist Dwight Kirkland, the artist who created the murals in downtown Lewistown.
At 5:30 pm, a free walking tour of Dwight's murals will leave from the steps of the historic courthouse. The tour will end back at Monument Square, at Dwight's latest mural, where there will be a dedication ceremony.
Immediately following the dedication, join us at Gallery 3West for an exhibit of some of Dwight's other works. Admission to the exhibit is a tax-deductible donation of $15 per person. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served. proceeds from the gallery opening will go to help to seal the theater mural.
The gallery was full of children in costume last night during Safe Trick or Treat. It's always fun to see creativity in the costumes. Some of our favorite costumes included a salt shaker and a flower pot! Of course, we always have a soft spot for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; after all, they are named after Renaissance artists Leonardo, Donatello, Rafael, and Michelangelo!
At Gallery 3West, children were invited to make paper bag puppets at our craft table. We saw some great puppets!
We had a great turnout last night for the Rocky Horror Picture Show party! Much rice and toilet paper were thrown, and a good time was had by all! In fact, it was such a success, that we are considering making it an annual event so that we can carry on the Rocky Horror tradition!
Thanks to all who came! We hope you had as much fun as we did and that you'll come and do the Time Warp with us again next year!
Just wanted to remind you that Gallery 3West is open to the public on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6:00-8:00 pm. Admission is free during this time, but donations are always welcome!
Staci was there last night working on a project, and she was lonely, so she invites others to join her next Tuesday and to bring their own projects to work on! We have plenty of space, and we like to see artists and artisans at work - and discussing their work!
Why not join Shane tomorrow night? We don't want him to be lonely, too! Stop in and say hi and
