Zen Coloring

3rd Thursday of each month (August 17, Sept 21, Oct. 19 )            6:30-8:30pm          Gallery 3West
Host: Metaphysics: A Spirited Space           FREE          Ages 18 and Up
PicturePhoto by Metaphysics: A Spirited Space
Come one and all to the studios at three west and join Metaphysics’ A Spirited Space’ for a FREE evening of Zen Adult color and sip. This is a great way to get out and enjoy the company of other adults, sip some BYOB, and slip into the relaxing world of Zen coloring.

Zen coloring is a way to relax and let your mind rest while your hands work. It is sort of the same thing as doodling; however you have no stress of a blank page. You can experiment with colors and textures while you fill in the blanks. It feels simultaneously like repetition and progression, which makes this calming and soothing.

We will explain the process and set you up with your artistic page. You then relax and color as much or as little as feels right. If you don’t get done, no worries, you can complete it at home, or save it will the next month, when we will have this class again.

For more information, find the Metaphysics Facebook page or call  814-826-1787.

We're finally back! Just a guilt-free needlecrafting zone! This is NOT a class, but we are happy to share techniques. All skill levels and needle/fiber artist/crafters are welcome. Whether you are a knitter, crocheter, spinner, felter, cross-stitcher, quilter, sewist, embroiderer, rug hooker - you are welcome! Whether you donate your work to charity, only make things for your grandkids, or sell your work -- you are welcome! Bring you own project and supplies, plus any other creature comforts you need, and get to know some other folks who enjoy these arts and crafts! We are not "yarn snobs!" Everyone is welcome here!

No registration is required. Just show up. This is a free group, but we do accept and appreciate donations to MJAC to help with the room rental and utilities. For more information, call 994-1225 or email staci.vanart@gmail.com.

Knitting 101

Thursday, August 3, 10, 24, and 31          7:00-9:00 pm          Gallery 3West
Instructor: Staci Van Art          $40 per person ($10 per session)

This is a four-part workshop for beginning knitters. Learn how to cast on, do knit and purl stitches, increase, decrease, and bind off. Learn how to do combination stitches to make patterns, such as ribs, basket weave, and moss. If time permits, we will also learn basic cables.

Participants should bring a set of knitting needles in a medium size (7, 8, or 9). Shorter is better; 12" in optimum, but longer needles are fine.  Participants should also bring a skein of worsted weight yarn in the color of their choice. Lighter colors are easier for beginners to see stitches. Wool, acrylic, or wool/acrylic blends are easiest for beginner to use.

August 3 - Learn to cast on and do the knit stitch.
August 10 - Learn to do the pearl stitch and combinations.
August 24 - Learn to increase and decrease.
August 31 - Design your own scarf.

There was so much interest in this workshop in July, that we've scheduled another one! We will use stencils and bleach to create unique T-shirt designs.

Bring a T-shirt (cotton or cotton/poly blend). Dark or bright colors work best. Results vary.

All other materials will be provided. There will be plenty of stencils to choose from, but you may bring your own if you'd like.

Anyone under the age of 18 will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE): safety glasses, latex gloves, and a dust mask, which will be provided. PPE will be available to all participants.

There is limited space for this workshop. To reserve your seat, click "Going" on this Event on our Facebook page, email staci.vanart@gmail.com, or call 994-1225.
